Increased Demand for Wills
As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, there has been a significant rise in the number of people wishing to make Wills. Often, it takes a crisis to prompt people to get done what they know they should do or have been meaning to do, but haven’t ever quite got round to it. And this is a crisis the likes of which most of us have not seen in our lifetimes!
What is spurring people into action is the seriousness of the current crisis with the accompanying mortality rates, but also the fact that most people have more available time on their hands to get round to their long ‘to do’ lists.
Taking instructions for Wills, etc, can be done over the phone or by electronic communication. And the necessary paperwork can be sent through the post. So, no personal contact is necessary in the process.
Signing your Will in the present Lockdown
However, when it comes to signing your Will, you do need two adults with mental capacity and sight who are NOT benefitting under the terms of your Will to witness that it is your signature – and to sign themselves and add their details to confirm this. With social distancing, care in this process is needed.
